The 7th edition of the Lebanese Film Festival will present four sections:
August 21, 2008 on invitation
Opening Film
Lebanese premiere of one or more Lebanese fiction films at the opening of the festival.
From August 22 until August 25, 2008
Section 1: Lebanese Films 2007-2008
A selection of fictions, experimental or documentary films directed by Lebanese filmmakers (or from Lebanese origin) in Lebanon or abroad during the period: September 2005 - July 2007.
Section 2: Foreign look
This section will present films directed by foreign filmmakers who were interested in working on issues related to Lebanon. We are extremely curious at presenting this “foreign look” because it will enrich our cinema and understanding of ourselves.
Section 3: Heritage
This section aims at reviving images from our past and from our film heritage.
Film of "yesterday":
As usual, we shall present a full-length film made before or during the 1975 war.
Old Lebanese Trailers:
This is a very pleasant way to revisit our cinematographic heritage. These trailers that often look old-fashioned are characteristic of that period's imagery and they can convey to us the perceptions of the spectators of that period.
TV archives:
We have been closely following on TV the recent political events in Lebanon on TV since February 2005. This made us dig into the TV archives that used to be shown in theatres in the 50’s and the 60’s in Beirut. This is an archive that will refresh our memory around the social and political events of that period.
Home movies:
These 8 and super 8 mm films - most of which were found in the Sunday market, forgotten in boxes at back-shops -, tell the story of our life, our romances, our anniversaries, our holidays, our travels… Stories that might seem insignificant … but one never could have imagined how rich they would be on film. Those silent movies will be screened with live musical performances.
Section 4: Retrospective of a foreign director
From now on, we will be screening the work of a young, established foreign filmmaker. In this section, we seek to raise public awareness about a new way of making films, but most of all to present quality films that are not available through the usual channels.
